End-user profiles show tangible benefits of life with 21CN

What will everyday life really be like for your business and consumer customers in the 21st Century Network (21CN) world? The answer for Communications Providers (CPs) comes not from hitching a ride on a time machine but from a series of profiles created by BT Wholesale.

Designed to give a clearer idea of what future market demands and sales opportunities could be, they show how people with a variety of different jobs, workplaces and lifestyles might be using the advantages of 21CN-enabled services to support and enrich virtually everything they do. Starting today, we'll be publishing these conceptual end-user customer profiles regularly in The Loop - looking first at Anna Mation, the MD of an innovative SME in the new media design industry.


Anna Mation has built up her agency from a team of just ten, five years ago, and now has 45 people on board. Her company's creative work has won many awards and her 'innovations' team is well recognised in the industry for developing new communications channels for brand awareness campaigns.

For Anna, it is vital that her Communications Provider not only delivers a service that helps her to run her business cost effectively, but also that the communications service she receives allows Anna and her team to continue to be innovative.

Delivering pioneering value-add services to her own client base has helped Anna to establish a competitive edge in an over-crowded new media design market. This is a reputation that her clients have come to expect and that Anna is determined to maintain - which is why the 21CN-enabled software services and software development kits (Software as a Service or 'SaaS') are critical to her business success. Anna's ideas can quickly be developed into innovative designs and solutions for her clients primarily because 21CN supports SaaS as standard.

Today Anna is presenting two of her team's freshest campaign designs. The first is for a leading fashion brand with a large London customer base that plans to open four regional boutiques in Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff and Edinburgh. As Anna's client is renowned for leading-edge fashion design, the promotional campaigns must reflect this. And they do!

Using a simple GPS service, existing customers on the company's database will receive an MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) or a call direct to their mobile with a personalised invitation to visit the latest collections when they are in the locality of any of the new boutiques.

For their second presentation, Anna and her team talk her client through a new functionality on their website. Anna's team were briefed to come up with a cost-effective alternative to the company's traditional telephone call centre service. Their solution is an application that allows online shoppers to call the retailer direct over the internet via a VoIP call centre.

Within three clicks, the easy-to-use software can be safely downloaded onto the shopper's laptop, PC or PDA. On every return to the site, a single mouse-click will put shoppers through to the VoIP call centre for free, from anywhere in the world. The client loves it!

When Anna arrives home this evening she calls her niece Dina who is currently in Australia. Today's her birthday and as a surprise Anna has also arranged for Dina's parents, brother and other family members to dial into the same call using a VoIP service - the same capability she earlier presented to her client as a solution to a business challenge.

After a long day, Anna finally relaxes. She selects a new release from her library of film downloads and congratulates herself on remembering to adapt her home broadband service package to allow her to increase her bandwidth capability to ensure her pre-programmed downloads are completed while she is out innovating in the world of new media design.
