Hello you are now in The Loop / February 2010
Growing your business
More than half of the UK’s homes and businesses are now within the catchment area of Wholesale Broadband Connect (WBC), BT Wholesale’s 21CN broadband service.
We crossed that iconic 50% threshold in mid-January, ahead of schedule. WBC is now available from over 730 exchanges around the UK. It means that Communications Providers not only have a much bigger customer base within reach but also the ability to expand their portfolios and offer even more broadband choices. WBC delivers speeds of up to 24Mbit/s*.
BT Wholesale’s Director of Broadband & Content Services Sian Baldwin comments: “Already more than 550,000 end-users are enjoying our ADSL2+ copper next generation broadband service, with 20-30,000 more being added each week.”
“Running over BT’s 21st Century Network, WBC offers greater control, choice and flexibility as well as higher speeds” Sian adds. “It supports the growing demand for high-speed access to a range of online services, including television, gaming and multiple voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services.”
And WBC is growing still – not just in geographical coverage but in variety too. Last month also saw the launch of our latest addition to the WBC family. Following the successful completion of our fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) trials, we’re now taking orders for WBC’s fibre-based variant that offers downstream speeds of up to 40Mbit/s and upstream rates of up to 10Mbit/s* – as we report in this issue here.
Looking ahead we’re now on track to deliver copper-based WBC services to around 14 million end-users by the end of March 2010 – and – subject to market demand – our intention is to increase this to 20 million by Spring next year.
* The maximum speed a WBC line can support subject to the distance from the exchange and other external factors such as interference on the line.
Plus we also offer a fully managed option – Wholesale Broadband Managed Connect (WBMC).
